Takashi Murakami and Pharrell Williams’ sculpture “The Simple Things” is brought to auction later this month, and is estimated to fetch up to 3.8 million dollars at the themed evening sale “HI-LITE”.
The sculpture demands viewers to see everyday objects — seven of them handpicked by Pharrell that represent the singer’s items used daily — “in a different light”, sitting inside iconic Murakami’s character Mr. DOB’s mouth, bejeweled with 26,000 diamonds by Jacob & Co. “The Simple Things” tries to challenge the perception of most ordinary stuff: adorned with lavish diamonds, the simple objects have a whole different value and meaning, and explores how the most luxurious, highly-valued things in life are often the simplest.
